About Me
People have been telling me that I need an About Me page to make this blog more human. I’m not too good with this sort of thing but here goes…
I am Janet. better known as Jan, and I live in England in the UK. My interest in computers began in the early 1980s when the first home computers hit the stores. I was amazed that it was possible to make computers do things and dabbled a little in Basic. My full time job as a teacher then took over and I had very little time to play with computers until I bought my first PC with Windows 3.0 installed on it in the early/mid-1990s. This opened up a whole new world. It was fantastic to be able to talk to people from all over the world so easily, to hear about their every day lives and share experiences and knowledge.
My ISP gave me something called web space where I could create a web site. In those days there was no such thing as HTML editors so I learned some HTML and created my first site with notepad and a very early shareware version of PSP. Computer graphics and developing websites are still passions of mine but now I mostly use Photoshop, Illustrator, Poser and Vue for graphics and my web development skills have expanded to encompass PHP, MySQL, Javascript and CSS.
Although I have been a Windows user since I purchased my first PC I have recently installed Ubuntu and I am now exploring the world of Linux. I love technology and my dream is to live at least another 100 years so I can experience the changes in technology in the future. I just hope our increasing knowledge is used for the good of mankind.
If you drop by this blog please leave a comment. It is always lovely to hear from people.
